Community & Environment

Community & Environment provides a diverse array of vital programs to the community. Service and assistance epitomize our mission to the citizens of Escambia County.

Community Redevelopment Agency. The mission of the CRA is to enhance the quality of life within the County's Redevelopment Areas and Enterprise Zone by encouraging private sector reinvestment, promoting economic development and providing public sector enhancements.

Escambia Extension. Escambia County Extension provides practical, how-to education based on scientific research conducted by the University of Florida. Educational programs include agriculture, small farms, marine sciences, family and consumer sciences, horticulture, natural resources and water quality, coastal sustainability, 4-H and other exciting youth programs.

Marine Resources. The mission of the Marine Resources is to provide access to safe, healthy and productive waterways.

Mosquito Control. The Mosquito Control Division is responsible for providing mosquito control in a manner consistent with the protection of the environmental and ecological integrity of all lands and water throughout Escambia County, including the City of Pensacola and the Town of Century, which encompasses 661 square miles.

Natural Resources Conservation. The mission of the Natural Resources Conservation (NRC) Division is to develop and implement comprehensive programs and provide technical assistance to the citizens of Escambia County for the protection and wise use of soil, water, and related natural resources.

Neighborhood Enterprise Foundation, Inc. Neighborhood Enterprise Foundation, Inc. (NEFI), is a local non-profit housing and community development agency, with responsibility for planning, programmatic and fiscal management of Escambia County's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, the Escambia/ Pensacola/ Santa Rose County HOME Investment Partnerships Program, the HUD Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) Program, and additional project activities as deemed of importance to the mission of NEFI and the County.

Water Quality & Land Management. The mission of the Water Quality and Land Management Division is to promote the sustainable integration of people and the surrounding natural environment through monitoring and targeted restoration efforts to improve water quality, restore wetlands, enhance wildlife habitat, preserve and manage environmentally sensitive land, develop urban forests, provide urban open space, support environmental education opportunities, preserve the economic/habitat values of the coastal dune system, and encourage ecotourism.
