The first step is to come to 200 West Fairfield Drive, Monday through Saturday between 9 am and 4 pm when
the kennel area is open to the public for adoptions.
When you enter the lobby, please tell the staff that you are interested in adopting a pet, and you will
be guided to the adoption areas for dogs and cats. Our dogs that are available for adoption may be found in kennels 1-15. When you go into the kennel
area, this will be the area to the right once you enter the screen enclosure.
The kennels to the left (numbers 16-105) are the strays, quarantined and legal hold animals and are not available
for adoption. We do not give out any information on the strays as we are still investigating for the animals' owners. This area is open only for
those individuals who are looking for their lost pet.
Before we can evaluate stray animals for possible adoption and legally transfer ownership, they must be held
for a minimum of five full business days. This does not count the first day they arrive at the shelter, Sundays or holidays when we are closed to the public.
Information on the adoptable dogs is kept at the front desk and can be requested by simply telling the staff
member which kennel (from 1-15) the dog is in. We will tell you all of the information we have on any of the dogs in the adoption section.
The kittens and cats available for adoption are in the rooms off the front lobby. Kittens are in cages
A-1 to A-8 and older cats in A-9 to A-18. The details on these adoptable cats are also available at the front desk.
To
accomplish the adoption, you must read, agree to and sign our Adoption Contract and pay the adoption fee and you will be ready to take your new pet home.
The adoption fee for all cats, kittens, dogs and puppies is $10.00 for Escambia County residents and $20.00 for non-county residents. In addition, there is a $40.00 spay/neuter deposit for unaltered adoption cats and dogs as
required by Florida State Statutes. Spay/neuter must be done within 30 days for adopted animals aged six (6) months or older.
We cannot hold or reserve animals as all adoptions are done on a “first come, first served” basis.
We can accept cash and checks but cannot accept debit or credit cards.
We do all we can do here at the shelter to help ensure that the animals we adopt out are healthy. However,
since we have no control over what an animal has been exposed to before arrival at the shelter, there can be no guarantees. For this reason, one of the
provisions of the adoption contract is that you will take the animal for a veterinarian checkup within three working days after the adoption.
Thank you for considering adoption from our shelter.
