With a current inventory of 212 facilities totaling 2,139,374 square feet, the Facilities Management Maintenance Division’s daily requirements are a challenge. The facilities vary in size, age, type of construction and usage. A number of the County’s buildings function as customer oriented service facilities, however there are numerous special purpose facilities, such as the Sheriff’s administrative and correctional facilities, fire departments, emergency management sites, and community centers.

At the conclusion of Fiscal year 2004/05, our overall inventory increased by 2 facilities from the previous year, with the average cost to maintain these structures remaining a $1.45 per square foot. The cyclical preventive maintenance and controlled facility inspections continue to be the mainstay of the division. The benefits of these programs are evidenced by the operational efficiency and present condition of most mechanical infrastructure components.

Through software program upgrades and mission oriented refinements, our computerized maintenance program (MP2) delivers on demand reports for scheduling and tracking of all preventive maintenance and repair activities under our responsibility for the Board of County Commissioners. This program also allows the Department to accurately report labor and material expenditures and to identify inefficiencies within a particular facility under our responsibility.
