Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment
Mission
Escambia County Volunteer Firefighters are dedicated to providing the highest quality of service that reflects our commitment to the community by protecting the lives and property of our neighbors.
History
In Escambia County, the majority of volunteer fire departments were organized from 1940 to 1970. Each department became an independently chartered nonprofit organization.
In the past, volunteer fire departments only relied on voluntary contributions and local fund-raisers to operate.
In regards to membership, it was not uncommon to have as many as 40 active members in each fire department. There was a strong sense of community pride and commitment by firefighters, and many were able to leave their place to employment when the alarm went off.
Currently there are 15 volunteer fire stations operating with more than 300 dedicated volunteers. These volunteers help to insure the safety and protection of Escambia County residents. |
