         Soil and Water Conservation Division

Soil and Water Conservation develops and implements comprehensive programs to provide for the protection of our natural resources. Our technicians support County's Comprehensive Plan by performing wetland determination and site surveys

of land before development is approved. We also provide erosion control assistance to landowners and administer several Federal agricultural programs.

We can assist with:

  • Drainage issues
  • Erosion issues
  • Wetland questions
  • Identification of threatened and endangered species
  • Identifying conservation practices
  • Surveying for terraces and waterways
  • Educational presentations on conservation practices to schools and groups
  • Implementing Federal cost-share programs
  • Aerial reviews of land for citizens and consultant agencies
  • Answering questions regarding the purposes of prescribed burns

In addition, we assist in completing all required Food Security Act work so that all Escambia County farmers retain their eligibility to participate in USDA programs such as crop insurance, conservation programs, and Farm Service Agency loans.
