• Population of Escambia County: 298,859 (US Census 2004 estimate)

• Estimated Population in Each Evacuation Zone (Based on 2000 US Census)*

  Hurricane Evacuation Zone 1: 9,050 persons in Occupied Housing Units

  Hurricane Evacuation Zone 2-3: 12,394 persons in Occupied Housing Units

  Hurricane Evacuation Zone 4-5: 31,841 persons in Occupied Housing Units

           *The numbers were acquired using the US Census 2000 Total Population tables per Census Block.

  GIS selected each block having its center within each selected evacuation zone.

• Number of mobile homes in Escambia County (According to FHDC 2002 Report): 11,158 units

• As of 3/15/06, FEMA has 1,328 leases with hurricane-displaced families, 1,346 from Hurricane Ivan and 26 from Hurricane Dennis.

• Residents are expected to follow evaluations orders, however they are not mandatory.

• Law enforcement officials close bridges when it is determined they are no longer safe to pass, generally at tropical storm force winds, and cannot be reopened until they pass FDOT or Escambia County Road Department inspections, depending on ownership.
