The Building Inspections Division conducts plan review and inspection services to ensure the integrity of all new buildings and major improvements to existing structures built in the unincorporated areas of the county and to ensure that all residential and commercial construction is in compliance with state and local building requirements.

Contractor Licensing and Investigations

Contractor licensing is a function designed to safeguard the health, safety and public welfare of Escambia County and its citizens.

Contractors who wish to obtain building permits in Escambia County may do so if they hold a State of Florida Certificate of Competency, are registered with the State through Escambia County or hold an Escambia County Certificate of Competency.

Escambia County Construction Boards

There are three different boards under the purview of the Building Inspections Department. Agenda and minutes for each board can be found here.

The BID Inspections Fund Advisory Board (IFAB) meets quarterly to make recommendations concerning the Building Inspection Department’s budget, service fees, costs, and other related financial matters. Please check the calendar for the next scheduled IFAB meeting.

Plan Review Services

Plans Review services include the review of residential and commercial construction plans for compliance with adopted building codes. Plans Intake Specialists will verify all documents are included to ensure construction plans are reviewed in a timely manner.
