Parks and Recreation
Parks and Recreation maintains property throughout Escambia County, including athletic fields and parks, developed neighborhood parks, undeveloped open space parks, community centers, beach access parks, boat launch areas, median areas throughout the county, the Equestrian Center, a camping facility at Lake Stone and joint use agreements with elementary schools for use and maintenance of playground facilities.
The Recreation division is responsible for providing both competitive and recreational programming and events planning and development. This division brings great new leagues, tournaments, and events held at premier award-winning facilities. Sports that are offered include soccer, softball and flag football.
The Escambia County Equestrian Center, a 178-acre park, serves as a multi-use event facility. The center hosts numerous horse shows, supporting both English and Western style equine events, Rodeos, dog shows and other types of events. Numerous equestrian shows, Rodeos, exhibitions, festivals, concerts, weddings, etc. draw participants and enthusiasts from around the country to the greater Pensacola area.
Lake Stone Campground, a 100-acre campground and boat ramp facility located in the northern end of the County, has 77 campsites for everything from big RV rigs to tents. Recently updated to accommodate the more modern and much larger RV’s, Lake Stone is the County’s only facility located on a fresh water lake. Lake Stone facilities include a boat ramp (gasoline engines are not allowed to be used on Lake Stone), indoor public use building, a playground, showers, restrooms, a fishing pier, security lights, electrical and water hookups, a sewage dump station, picnic areas and the beautiful lake.
