Landfill Operations is responsible for the Class I Landfill, Weigh Station and Citizen’s Convenience Centers. The primary responsibility is to operate the Perdido Landfill in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 62-701 under an operating permit issued by Florida Department of Environmental Protection. While operating in compliance with permit, emphasis is placed on providing the citizens and businesses of Escambia County with a safe, efficient and environmentally sound waste disposal system. This division manages approximately 300,000 tons of waste per year. Industry best management practices are utilized to screen, push, compact and cover incoming waste on a daily basis.

DSWM has a Citizen’s Convenience Center (CCC) at the Perdido Landfill and a satellite facility in the north end of Escambia County in the Oak Grove community.  For more information call our office Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Asbestos Procedures

The Perdido Landfill is a Class I Landfill, permitted by the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation, and as such, is an acceptable site for the disposal of asbestos according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency guidelines.

In order to comply with EPA and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations regarding the disposal of asbestos, the Perdido Landfill will not accept any asbestos for disposal unless the following criteria is met:
