Public Records Requests

Florida's public records law, Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes, provides that records made or received by a public agency in the course of official business are available for inspection unless specifically exempted by law.

Public records may include papers, maps, books, photographs, recordings, electronic files and email correspondence.

Make a Public Records Request

Submit your request online through the Escambia County request portal.

Ways to Submit a Request

Before You Submit Your Request

  • You are not required to provide your name or give a reason for your request.
  • Requests may be made by phone, letter, email or through the online request portal.
  • Under Florida law, email addresses and IP addresses are public records. If you do not want your email address or IP address released in response to a public records request, submit your request by phone instead of electronically.
  • A fee may be charged when fulfilling a request requires a substantial amount of staff time or county resources.
  • County staff will provide an estimate of applicable fees and the time needed to gather the requested records.

Records Exemptions

Florida public records law contains exemptions for certain records or information. Other laws, including HIPAA and the Florida Emergency Telephone Act, may also restrict disclosure or require certain information to be redacted before a record is released.

Questions concerning public records exemptions may be directed to the County Attorney's Office.

Policies and Fees

Review the county policies related to copying, research and public records fees.
