What is Low Impact Design?

A stormwater management approach that uses a suite of BMPS (structural and non-structural) distributed throughout the site and integrated as a BMP Treatment Train (i.e., in series) to replicate the natural hydrologic functioning of the landscape and to reduce the average annual stormwater pollutant loading discharged off-site.

Low Impact Design Manual and Workshops

Escambia County received a Section 319 Nonpoint Source Management Program Implementation Grant in 2016 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through an agreement/contract with the Nonpoint Source Management Section of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The purpose of the grant was to develop a low impact design manual to eventually be incorporated into the Escambia County Land Development Code, and to provide local education through a series of workshops. Video and slide presentations from those workshops are presented here to expand access to the information as a “virtual workshop.”
