The Perdido Landfill is permitted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as an asbestos disposal site. If you believe there is asbestos-containing material in your home, visit the Environmental Protection Agency's website.  

Instructions for Asbestos Professionals

Perdido Landfill accepts friable asbestos by appointment only. A disposal letter must be issued by the Engineering and Compliance department before the material will be accepted at Perdido Landfill. All friable asbestos received at the landfill must comply with the EPA and OSHA regulations regarding disposal. Therefore, the following criteria must be met:

  1. Asbestos must be adequately wetted to prevent any visible emission when handled.
  2. Asbestos must be contained in clear, sealed, plastic bags of minimum 6 milliliter thickness.
  3. The bags must not be damaged.
  4. The bags must be clearly labeled with the following information:
  • CAUTION
  • CONTAINS ASBESTOS
  • AVOID OPENING OR BREAKING THE CONTAINER
  • BREATHING ASBESTOS IS HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH

Landfill personnel will visually inspect the load to ensure it meets disposal criteria. Loads that do not meet criteria will be refused.
