Escambia County Mosquito Control Truck

Fogging Operations

They are 57 spray routes that cover the entire county. Route schedules are assigned based on the number of call-ins, larvicide field reports; and mosquito counts from traps throughout the county. Typical hours of operation are from sundown to approximately 10 p.m. Mosquito fogging cannot take place if it is raining, if winds are less than 2 mph or exceed 10 mph, or If temperatures drop below 60 degrees.

Adulticide fogging operations usually begin from 6-6:30 p.m. depending on the ambient temperature and heat index. If the temperature (with heat index) is higher than 98 degrees Fahrenheit, the Ultra-Low-Volume spray will only evaporate. However, challenges in local meteorology can make standard guidelines prohibitive and impractical. Although Escambia County Mosquito Control responds to local service requests from the public within 48 hours, the fogging mission is contingent upon landing rate counts and trap surveillance.
